Scratch Acid est un groupe de rock fondé à Austin, Texas, en 1982. Il est formé de Brett Bradford à la guitare et au chant, David Wm. Sims à la basse, Rey Washam à la batterie et David Yow au chant et à la basse. Il se désagrège en 1987, pour donner Rapeman puis The Jesus Lizard.

La musique de ce groupe se place parmi les plus dures de la scène alternative américaine des années 1980 et eut une influence notable sur certains groupes phares, notamment Nirvana à ses débuts. Situé dans la mouvance noise rock, ce « groupe bruyant, douloureux et désaxé » adopte des sonorités très terre-à-terre : un son brut, pourvu d'une certaine chaleur humaine (du moins bestiale) grâce à une basse et une batterie lourdes, un chant sans retenue, et une guitare stridente. La construction des morceaux est souvent complexe, alternant tensions, passages violents et changements de rythmes. Il développe une rage peu fréquente dans la mouvance noisy, notamment par les prestations scéniques du chanteur David Yow.

U.S.A Out Of Vietnam, c’est trois musiciens disparates en provenance de Toronto et de Montréal. L’un d’eux appartenait à un groupe plutôt populaire qui tournait des vidéos et un autre était dans un groupe connu qui produisait aussi des vidéos inspirant certains des pires groupes que vous ayiez probablement entendu. Après que le second membre ait quitté son groupe fameux, il a formé un autre groupe que personne n’appréciait, qui faisait également des vidéos, seulement personne ne voulait s’ennuyer à les regarder. Je suppose qu’il est important de noter qu’il haissait aussi le groupe populaire de l’autre gars.

            Le troisième membre, le batteur Eric Cohen, bien qu’il n’ait appartenu à aucun groupe que personne n’ait vraiment aimé, devrait bientôt changé tout ça avec son autre groupe Balboa. Balboa joue que les sélections qui sont originellement apparues dans les quatre premiers films de Rocky. Balboa présente aussi des membres anciens et actuels de Coney Hatch, de Talas (qui a présenté un jeune Billy Sheehan de Mr Big !) ainsi qu’un des membres de l’ancien groupe du batteur de Kiss Peter Criss’ Jump Blues Band Revue, inutile de dire qu’avec cet impressionant pédigré les Balboa sont sans aucun doute « the fuckin’ tits » Réveillez les voisins, Balboa est là !

            Euh, revenons à U.S.A out Of Vietnam. Ils ne jouent aucune pièce provenant de films et leur musique est très pesante. C’est aussi leur premier spectacle, donc ne placez pas vos espoirs trop haut. Ils ne présentent aussi aucun des membres de Peter Criss’ Jump Blues Revue, mais le seul qui a, un jour, joué dans un groupe populaire et plus tard dans un groupe non connu a obtenu l’autographe du célèbre batteur de Kiss à l’allure féline lors d’une séance de signature. Balboa !

Born out of the early 80’s Austin noise punk scene, Scratch Acid’s eventual permanent lineup consisted of David Yow on vocals, Brett Bradford on guitar, David Wm. Sims on bass, and Rey Washam (Big Boys) on drums. After putting out a self-titled EP and the full length Just Keep Eating, Touch and Go released the band’s scathing Berserker EP in 1987. The band broke up after the long tour that followed the release, and David and Rey joined up briefly with Steve Albini in Rapeman. After Rapeman broke up, the two Davids formed The Jesus Lizard. In 1991, Touch and Go released The Greatest Gift, which collected all of Scratch Acid’s recorded output.

U.S.A. Out of Viet Nam is made up of three disparate Toronto/Montreal musicians. One of the guys was in a pretty popular band that made videos and stuff and one guy was in a popular band who also made videos that inspired some of the worst bands you are likely to hear. After the second guy quit the popular band he formed another band that nobody liked, who also made videos but nobody bothered to watch them. I suppose it should be noted he also hated the other guy’s popular band where as the initial guy who only played in a popular band had never even heard of the other guy’s popular and unpopular band.

The third member, drummer Eric Cohen though was never in a band anybody really liked but his other band Balboa should soon change all of that. Balboa only performs selections that originally appeared in the first four Rocky pictures – which, as anybody with a functioning pair of ears on their noggin would justly proclaim as “pretty fuckin’ rad, Jack”. Balboa also features current and former members of Coney Hatch, Talas (who featured a young Billy Sheehan from Mr. Big!) and former Kiss drummer Peter Criss’ Jump Blues Band Revue, needless to say with this impressive pedigree Balboa are indeed the fuckin’ tits. Wake the neighbors, Balboa are here! 

            Uh, U.S.A, Out of Viet Nam don’t play any soundtracks from movies and are very loud, this is also their first show so don’t get your hopes up. They also do not feature any members of Peter Criss’ Jump Blues Revue, but the one member who once played in a popular band and later an unpopular band did get the famous feline Kiss trapsman’s autograph at an in store signing once. Balboa!
